When Celtic Energy reopened their East Pit mining site it had collected some water during the inactive period. A system was put in place using a pair of heavy duty slurry pumps, ran from soft starters. The first to pump the water into a break tank and the second to take it up to the surface and into a water treatment facility.
Since the pit was drained the system has remained in place to prevent a rise in the water level. Recently, however, one of the soft start units, a Lovato ADX, developed a fault and began to trip. After speaking with the suppliers of the control panel, they were advised to contact Lovato regarding the problem, who suggested sending the 51ADX0568 unit back to Italy for repair.
As down time in this case was critical, due to rising water levels and loss of production involved in a shut down, an alternative was needed. Due to our previous work with the supplier of the control panels we were recommended for the job. In the meantime the pump was being run from a diesel motor that only just kept it going.
Having discussed the problem we resolved that the best solution would be to have the panel brought in for our engineers to work on. As soon as it arrived an engineer began work on it and had diagnosed and solved the problem by the end of the day, and spent the next day testing and made sure that the issue was resolved.
Our engineers have lots of experience with soft starts
in addition to inverters and dc drives. In the past we have sent engineers
to site similar to this, when we knew that the problem could be solved
there. Our engineers have been to a variety of site, industrial, agricultural
and commercial around the world.
